The team goes the scene and examines the body of Valerie, an air hostess who was murdered. Nearby, the police see a homeless man who is babbling nonsense. Ray says that Valerie is the second air hostess that was recently killed. Chris says he that found Valerie's diary. Sam looks at the body and sees that Valerie looks exactly like Annie, except she has brown hair.
Later, Sam asks Annie if she is okay. Annie tells Sam that she is trying to practice understanding things that don't make sense. Sam tells Annie that he is sorry that the crazy things that happen to him are now rubbing off on her. Ray says that Valerie died from blunt force trauma to the back of the head. He says that Valerie has signs of sexual activity, but it doesn't seem like she was raped. Chris tells Sam that Valerie lived in the same building as the other hostess was killed. A girl arrives in the office and the detectives see that Annie is wearing a wig to make her look exactly like Valerie. Annie says that she wants to catch Valerie's killer. Annie says that she read Valerie's diary and can play the part. The team coaches Annie about Valerie's life and career. Ray gives her a microphone that they can use to monitor her.
Annie goes to Valerie's apartment where she is staying with two other flight attendants named Carol and Leslie. In the surveillance van, Chris tells Gene and Ray about his date. He says that he had a couple of drinks and puked on his date while he tried to kiss her. Carol and Leslie arrive and are surprised to see Valerie. They ask Valerie/Annie where she has been. Valerie tells Carol that she was mugged. Valerie says that she didn't call because she was out of it. Valerie finds an envelope hidden in the ceiling panel. She sees that there is a date book with a flight scheduled for tomorrow highlighted. Sam calls Annie on the radio and tells her that she is doing a great job. Annie tells Sam that Valerie has a lot of posters of David Cassidy. Annie admits that she has never been on a plane before. Sam tells Annie that when he was a kid, he used to play in a box and pretend that he was on a rocket ship. He says that he would look at a magazine with a flight attendant on the cover and imagine that she would help him along during his travels.
The detectives find that, Lincoln, the man that Valerie was supposed to meet with, also took a flight with the first victim. Gene tells Sam and Ray that he has tickets for Annie's flight. At the airport, a pilot named Ronald flirts with Carol. He sees Valerie/Annie and tells her that he heard that she was attacked. Sam walks in dressed as a pilot. Leslie and Carol see Sam and tell Annie that he is cute. Annie says that she knows Sam. Sam meets with Ronald and tells him that his name is Tom Cruise. Ronald offers Tom a drink because he knows that he is hitching a ride. Ronald introduces Sam to Rita, his wife. The plane takes off and Annie sees that Ray is on board. Sam sees that Lincoln is on board. Later, Lincoln grabs Valerie/Annie and asks her if she has it. Annie tells him yes. Lincoln tells Valerie that he has been dreaming about it. Sam looks outside the window and sees the entire planet Earth in the distance. Lincoln gets up and tries to get under Annie's dress. Annie screams and fights him off. Ray runs to Lincoln, announces that he is police and arrests Lincoln. He tells the passengers that the plane is going to return to New York.
