The detectives investigate a dead man in a house that has no roof. Reese sees bruises on the man's arms and face and a gunshot in his chest. She then notices something in the man's mouth. She opens it up and finds several $20 bills shoved down the man's throat. The detectives learn that the man's name is Roy and that he works at a roofing company

Crews and Reese go to Roy's work. A man named Ian is working a barbecue inside the building asks if they want chicken or ribs. A woman named Sasha enters the room and she and Ian guess how long Reese and Crews have been together. They tell the man that they are detectives and ask if Roy McCullough worked there. The woman gets nervous. They say they were supposed to meet with Roy last night, but he never showed. Crews asks if they know anyone who would have wanted to hurt Roy. Sasha says Roy had many other interests.

Reese and Crews look through Roy's car and find several signs for roofing companies. Reese figures the companies are all fake and believes Roy was running a scam. They meet with Red Pesca, a former customer of Roy's. He says That he and his family all got sick from having no roof on their house. Reese asks about his BBB complaint. The man says Roy took the roof off the house, then said he was going to charge double to put it back on. He says they couldn't afford the price hike, so they ended up with a house with no roof. Reese and Crews talk to several other customers who had similar experiences after hiring Roy.

Crews picks Rayborn up from a club. Rayborn asks where his driver is, then hears a knocking in the trunk. Crews asks why he sent him to Roman. Rayborn tells Crews to give him some time to get something to show him.

Crews talks to Tidwell about Roy's murder. Reese walks in and says the house Roy was found in was owned by Red Pesca. Reese and Crews go to the house and find Red. They bring him to the station. Red says he didn't kill anybody. He says he was trying to flip the house, but the housing market dried up. Red says the bank foreclosed on the house. The detectives make Red take his gloves off. He then gets up and starts punching the wall until his hands are bloody.

Ted is at home and Ann comes to the door. He tells her she's grown up to be a beautiful young woman. Ted tells her she can call him dad, but she says no. She then walks in, followed by a group of people she calls her crew.

Reese and Crews notice scabs under the blood on Red's hands. They ask what else Red has been punching. Crews says they are going to test his DNA and compare it to the DNA on Roy's bruises. Crews says if they find a match, he will be sent to prison. Red admits he went to Roy to get his money back, but Roy laughed at him. Red admits beating up Roy, but denies killing him. Red says he fell for the scam because of Sasha.

Reese gets a call from the medical examiner saying Roy was beaten several hours before he was shot. Crews says there were 60 complaints to the BBB and only one was withdrawn. They see the person who withdrew the complaint was the elderly woman Mary that they talked to earlier.

Reese talks to Sasha and Ian. They deny knowing about Roy's scams. Crews says they are accessories. Sasha says their business is legitimate. Meanwhile, Reese talks to Mary. She talks about her son William, then says he asked her to withdraw her complaint against Roy.

Reese and Crews go to an antique shop. They talk to a blind man and ask if he is William. Another man walks out and says he is William. He says he asked his mom to withdraw the complaint. The detectives update Tidwell on William. They find a string of beatings that William was responsible for. The detectives and the rest of the force go to William's shop. The clocks all begin to ring and William reaches for something. Reese points her gun at him and tells him to drop what he's holding. He reveals a cup of tea and says not to worry because it isn't loaded.
