Bonfire of the Vanity 2.10
Jenny and Agnes fight over their business, Dan is asked to do an expose on Bart Bass, Blair celebrates her 18th birthday and meets her mom's new boyfriend, and Serena pursues her relationship with Aaron. Rufus tells Dan that he meet with Agnes's mother for lunch and although she's not June Cleaver, Rufus says that he feels better about Jenny staying at Agnes's house until she's ready to come home. Dan tells Rufus that he submitted his Chuck Bass based story to Mr. Shapiro, who loved it and is now writing him a letter of recommendation to Yale. Rufus tells Dan that he's not thrilled about him using other people to get ahead, but says that he's happy for him and his sister anyway.
Blair is excited about her 18th birthday and plans her party with her friends. She is also looking forward to meeting her mom's new boyfriend Cyrus, saying that her mom has exquisite taste in men. Serena gets a text from Aaron and tells Blair she has to go. Blair is unhappy that Serena is leaving, but still happy about her birthday and meeting Cyrus.
Serena meets Aaron at Times Square where a large screen shows a camera focused on her. He appears behind her and the two kiss. He asks her if she will pose for him and Serena agrees.
Agnes and Jenny meet with Mr. Smith, a potential investor for their fashion line. The girls argue over everything from who is the brains of the operation to the company's name. The two leave the meeting, unsuccessful at obtaining funding. Jenny yells at Agnes for letting their last chance get away. Agnes tells Jenny not to worry about it and she'll find them another investor.
Blair tells Dorota that she's done everything wrong in setting up the table for Cyrus. Dorota apologizes and follows Blair's orders. Cyrus (played by Wallace Shawn) arrives at the door and Blair is horrified to see that he is her mom's new boyfriend. The next day at school, Blair tells Serena about her mother's hideous boyfriend and Serena tells Blair to be mature about the situation. Blair agrees to be civil.
Chuck offers his dad tickets to a Rangers hockey game as a gift to honor Bass Industries' 20th anniversary. Bart tells him that his gesture was thoughtful, but he is too busy for a hockey game.
Dan meets with Mr. Shapiro who introduces him to James Wolfe, the editor of New York Magazine. Shapiro tells Dan that they would like him to write an expose on Bart Bass for publication. Dan tells the men that he's not going to use his connections to exploit Bart Bass, but they convince him that it would be the best move for his career.
Dan meets with Bart and asks if he can shadow him for a while because he is interested in his Real Estate Empire. Bart tells Dan he's too busy. Dan tells Bart that he would follow his dad, but he's not as successful as Bart. Bart agrees that Rufus isn't as interesting as him and agrees to let Dan follow him around. Later, Bart asks Dan if he wants to go to the Ranger's hockey game. Chuck overhears the proposition and becomes angry with his father.
Jenny finds Agnes in the cafe and yells at her for standing her up all day and not returning her calls. Agnes tells Jenny that she's hungover and will take care of business on Monday. Agnes then gets up and runs to the bathroom. Jenny looks through Agnes's purse and takes her contact phone numbers. Jenny leaves and calls Mr. Smith. He agrees to meet with her again. She tells him that she and Agnes are no longer partners. He tells her that he would like to sign with her, but since she's not 18, she'll have to get a parent to sign the contracts.
Cyrus looks over Blair's plans for her birthday and tells her that she's overpaying for peonies. He asks her if she would mind if he bought the flowers from a cheaper florist. Blair insists that he use her florist. Cyrus then tells Blair that he knows how much Eleanor loves Cyndi Lauper and he got tickets for them to see her on the night of Blair's party. Blair tells him that both she and her mother love Cyndi Lauper, but she wants her mom to be at her party. Eleanor tells Blair that she will celebrate her birthday with her on her actual birthday and that she will go with Cyrus to the concert on the night of her party.
Blair asks her mother what she sees in Cyrus. Eleanor tells Blair that Cyrus is completely different from her father. She says that Cyrus is a good man and she can trust him.
Serena goes to Aaron's apartment and he takes pictures of her. The next morning, Serena goes back to Aaron's with breakfast and tells him how much she enjoys being his muse. They kiss and look at the pictures he took of her the night before. A woman named Danielle arrives at the apartment and Aaron tells Serena that Danielle is modeling for him too. Serena is upset that he didn't tell her that he was working with other models and leaves.
Chuck follows Dan and sees him meet with Mr. Shapiro. Chuck calls his friend and asks if she still works as an intern at the New York Magazine. She says she does and he asks if she knows anything about Dan Humphries. She tells Chuck that all she knows is that he has a meeting with her boss later that day.
Dan meets with an anonymous employee for Bass Industries who tells him about a fire 20 years ago that he believes Bart set on purpose. He explains that Bart had purchased a building with the intentions of turning it into condos, but the market went South and he lost his funding. The building then burned to the ground, Bart collected insurance money and built his current empire with it.
