In Which We Meet Mr. Jones

A parasite found wrapped around an agent's heart leads the team across the ocean to find his cure. Read the recap and review of Fox's Fringe.

The FBI conduct a night raid on a truck leaving a pier. They surround the vehicle and look in the cargo area. They find that it is full of toy panda bears. The person in charge of the raid, Mitchell Loeb, meets with Broyles. Loeb tells him that he got the information from an agent named Joseph Smith. Loeb grabs his heart and collapses. Broyles takes him to the hospital. Broyles is met by his wife, Jessica. Broyles tells her that they just need to wait. The doctors find that Loeb's heart stopped and use the defibrillator on him. They are unable to revive him and move to cut his chest in order to apply the paddles. The doctor makes an incision and finds a white wormlike creature wrapped around his heart. Loeb's heart begins to beat again and stabilizes.

The fringe team is called in to investigate. Walter examines the open chest and admires the design. He finds that it is partially organic containing a series of tendrils. Walter orders Loeb to be brought to his lab so he can further work on him.

Loeb is brought to Harvard. Walter thinks that it is a parasite that he has never encountered before. Aster walks in and gives Olivia Loeb's recent case files. She tells Olivia that Jessica is in her office and wants to speak to her. Jessica gives her what Mitchell was recently working on, which includes a Dicken's Christmas Carol book and a long list of numbers. Olivia promises that she will save her husband.

Walter takes a scalpel to the organism around Loeb's heart and it begins to tighten. Peter injects a sedative into Loeb's IV which calms down the parasite. Walter has removed a sample of the parasite and begins to analyze its DNA structure. Walter finds that the organism is too perfect for it to be natural. He finds a code in the sequence that repeats itself. Olivia figures that the code might be saying the letters ZFT.

Olivia meets with Broyles to update him on Loeb's condition. He tells her that the Loeb investigated and arrested David Jones, a man accused of selling state secrets. He suggests Jones might be the one responsible for creating the parasite. He says that the letters ZFT might be the initials of a terrorist group. Broyles says that Loeb might be part of the group's experiment. He says that Jones is being held in Frankfurt. Olivia says that she wants to meet Jones.

Walter finds that Loeb has become dehydrated. Peter sees a tendril going up the IV. Walter believes that the parasite is growing, causing Loeb's condition to worsen faster than he thought.

Olivia arrives at Frankfurt and meets with an old colleague, Lucas Vogel. Lucas tells her that they should just show up at the prison holding David. They go to the prison and meet with the warden, Lennox. Olivia convinces him to set up a meeting with David. She gives the warden a note to pass along to David.

Broyles visits Harvard and expresses his gratitude for Walter's help. Walter shares his obsession over a fruit cocktail that he had in Atlantic City. Broyles tells Peter that his father is losing focus. Peter says that he realizes that he is not completely focused, but he is doing better than most days. He says that he can't control his father and it will take time for Walter to get back to normal. Broyles gets a call from Charlie. Charlie tells him that the piece of paper that he got from Loeb's wife contains a list of case number files and the agents that were working on them. They figure that Joseph Smith had access to all of the information and was working as a mole. Broyles calls for a SWAT team to surround Joseph's house. He says that he wants radio silence so Joseph would not be tipped before their raid.
