College students party near a Daytona Beach hotel pool. Two young men, Greg and Lenny, collapse near the pool. As they ride in the ambulance, their hearts stop beating. During the autopsy, the examiner notices that one of the men's heart starts to beat again. Lenny wakes up and asks what is going on. The examiner calls for help.

Jacob meets with a woman, Hanna, in the park. Hanna asks Jacob if he has moved on since his wife's death. Jacob gets upset then says that he is dealing with his wife's death in his own way. Rachel drives up and tells him about the college students. Jacob says goodbye to Hanna then leaves.

Jacob meets a doctor named Audrey who says that Lenny spontaneously came back to life. Lenny says that he came to Daytona to party with a bunch of his friends. Lenny says that he and Greg had sex with a girl named Tabitha Jackson. Jacob tells Rachel that Lenny might have contracted an STD. Lenny tries to leave the hospital, but Rachel says that he has to stay.

Tabitha wakes up at her hotel room. She regrets what she did the night before and begins to cry. Later, Rachel and Jacob meet with her. Tabitha says that she was drunk when she was with Lenny and Greg. Jacob asks Tabitha about her sexual history. Jacob says that Lenny and Greg might have an STD. They take her to the hospital to be tested. In the hospital, Tabitha sees Lenny, gets upset then collapses. Audrey sees that Tabitha's heart beat has slowed down to 5 beats per minute. Later, Tabitha's parents ask Rachel to see their daughter.

Meanwhile, at the hotel a college student, Derrick, tells a girl, Belinda, to drink with him. The student's friend, Seth, gets a message that Greg is dead. The students get Belinda drunk then has sex with her.

Rachel meets with Lenny in his room. Lenny tries to hit on Rachel, but she gets angry and defends herself as he tries to grab her. Lenny gets upset then falls off his bed. Rachel sees that Lenny has a open wound on his leg.

Jacob says that Lenny is suffering from a flesh eating bacteria. Jacob tells Rachel that they should go to the pet store. Jacob buys a mouse, puts it in a airtight chamber, then slows down his heart with a gas. Jacob says that the virus that is affecting Lenny and Tabitha first knocks them out, then the flesh eating bacteria develops. Jacob tells Audrey to keep Tabitha in the state of suspended animation.

Back at the hotel, Belinda collapses near the pool. In a hotel room, Seth has sex with another girl who insists that he wear a condom. Later, the girl sees that Seth is unconscious. Jacob arrives and tells the girl that she is safe because she had Seth use protection. On the television, the local news team reports that there has been a recent string of flesh eating bacteria.

Jacob learns that Tabitha and Seth are being kept in an ice filled tub to keep them in suspended animation. Jacob has them moved into the morgue, where it is cold. Later, Jacob shows Rachel the DNA sample of the bacteria and says that it is man made. Jacob says that they might be able to find who made the bacteria then figure out how to cure the victims.

Rachel sees that Seth has a tattoo on his shoulder similar to Greg's. Rachel goes to Lenny's room and finds that he has the same tattoo. Jacob finds that the bacteria was built to have a high tolerance to cold. Jacob sees that it might have been created to survive in space. Jacob figures that NASA made the virus.
