An alarm sounds and an employee puts the dolls into their beds. Laurence and his team see a dead body and ask Topher what happened. Adelle says that Alpha broke into the mansion. Laurence gets a report that there is trouble in another room. They find Echo surrounded by several dead bodies. Echo tells Laurence that her friends won't wake up. Later, Adelle says that when the dolls are not imprinted with a personality, they walk around like children. She says that the dolls are in a state they call Tabular Rosa. Adelle tells a man named Richard that the girl that they can send to him can be anyone he wants them to be. Adelle says that she will ask for an additional fee because she knows that he poses a risk.

Richard hires Echo and brings her white water rafting. On the shore, Echo tells Richard that she had fun. She takes her gear and goes rock climbing with Richard. She slips and falls, but the line holds her. Boyd, who is monitoring Echo, tells Topher that there is some interference with his signal to Echo. Topher tells him that he will reposition a satellite in order to get a better signal.

Paul goes to the kidnapper's house. Another agent tells Paul that the kidnappers are dead except for one that took the ransom money. Paul says that it doesn't make sense that the last kidnapper would blow open the door. Paul says that the kidnapped girl said that a pretty girl saved her. Paul finds a pair of glasses that Echo dropped. He says that he thinks the kidnapping is linked to the Dollhouse.

Richard shows Echo how to shoot a bow and arrow. They see a deer and Echo shoots it. Later, Echo and Richard make love in a tent. Richard tells Echo that they need to get going. Richard grabs his bow and tells Echo that he will give her a five minute headstart then he will start coming after her.

Boyd remembers his first day at the Dollhouse. Adelle and Laurence told him that he will be assigned to Echo. Boyd asked what happened to Echo's last handler. Claire told Boyd that he is standing where he died. Boyd saw that Claire had fresh wounds on her face. Boyd examined the body of Echo's former handler and saw that he was killed by a master knife handler. Laurence told him that his team imprinted Alpha, the person who killed the handler, with the knowledge of how to kill with a knife. Boyd asked Laurence why Alpha didn't kill Echo.

Lubov, the Russian pimp, gets a call from Paul. Paul demands to know where the Dollhouse is. Lubov says that he does not know. Paul goes to his desk and finds an envelope. Inside the envelope he sees a photo of Echo labeled Caroline. Meanwhile, Echo tries to escape Richard by climbing down a cliff. Richard sees her with his monocular and loads an arrow. Richard shoots and nicks Echo's leg. Meanwhile, Topher tells Boyd that they have re established satellite contact. Boyd and his driver see a park ranger pull up in his truck. Boyd gets out with his driver and tells the ranger that he is a reporter and is lost. Boyd shows the ranger a fake reporter ID. After the ranger gives the ID back, he pulls out a silenced pistol and shoots the driver twice in the chest.
