The show begins with the explosion that ended season three. Hotch is walking around dazed from the blast and runs into some random guy. The guy said he's called 911 and hangs around while Hotch discovers Kate lying in the street, bleeding profusely. Kate reminds Hotch that help won't be coming because they told all emergency crews to ignore their calls fearing a second terrorist attack would hit the rescue teams.
Meanwhile, Garcia scopes out the scene. She calls everyone she can, starting with Derek, but loses phone connections. We eventually see that the rest of the crew members are fine. As Garcia looks at the surveillance video, she sees that Hotch and Kate are down and that the bomber is the guy who is at the scene with them. Derek convinces the police to let him get to Hotch and Kate. Garcia calls Derek and tells him the guy is the bomber. Derek chases the guy into the subway where he electrocutes himself to death.
Hotch finds a rescue worker with an ambulance who is willing to help. They load Kate into the back and Hotch drives to the hospital. When they arrive, they're told that the hospital is closed. Hotch pleads with the guard to allow them in. Hotch collapses, but then gets healed pretty quickly. Back at the office, the team realizes that they are being sent on a wild goose chase. They finally figure out that the bomb is in the ambulance and that the hospital is the target. Garcia tracks the rescue worker and the gang chases him.
Derek goes to the ambulance, hot-wires it, then asks Garcia to get him to an isolated location. The gang catches up with the second bomber in the garage just after he detonates the bomb with his cell phone. Garcia and Derek have a tear-jerking talk and the ambulance blows up as he pulls into an empty field. He comes out unscathed. Kate is not so lucky, she's dead. Derek gets her job.
BeeThoughts
I was a bit disappointed in tonight's episode. There wasn't much mystery behind what was going to happen. I would have at least left the outcomes for Derek and Kate a mystery for the viewers to look forward to for the next episode. Also, why did Derek have to jump start the ambulance if Hotch drove? I would think that he would have left the keys behind since he would have no reason to take them with him. It was also pretty silly for Hotch to tell Derek that his actions were reckless even though Hotch was the one who drove the ambulance bomb to the hospital. I hope the next episode has more of a focus on actual criminal profiling.
